Dr. Wikus Vermeulen established Highveld Urology in 2011 based primarily at Life Cosmos Hospital (Witbank Urology) and Life Midmed Hospital (Middelburg Urology). Dr. Vermeulen is a board-certified urologist whose main clinical focus is in urological oncology and endo-urology with a special emphasis on prostate and kidney cancers. Dr Vermeulen is one of 18 qualified robotic surgeons in South Africa and performs these procedures in Netcare Waterfall Hospital. When meeting with a patient, Dr. Vermeulen carefully reviews the patient's individual situation to determine with the patient the best approach to treatment.

Dr. Vermeulen received his undergraduate and medical degrees at the School of Medicine of the Free State University (UFS). After an internship in surgery and residencies in surgery at GF Jooste Trauma Hospital (Cape Town) and Dr George Mukhari Hospital(Pretoria) respectfully he returned to Bloemfontein. He continued his urology training at UFS. At the UFS he was actively involved in research as researcher and author of multiple studies. He is a member of the South African Urological Association, Société Internationale d'Urologie and the Endourology Society. Dr Vermeulen has presented on numerous urology topics at national and international congresses.
