History

Highveld Urology has been offering state-of-the-art comprehensive urologic care since 2011. Life Healthcare approached our physicians at the Urological Department at Free state university in 2010. There were no permanent urological services in Witbank and Middelburg at that stage and they wanted to expand on this area of service delivery. Dr Wikus Vermeulen moved to Witbank in 2011 and started a urological clinic in Witbank (Witbank Urology) and Middelburg (Middelburg Urology). It soon became evident that the whole of western Mpumalanga was in dire need of local urological service. Dr Nico Van Greunen moved to Witbank in 2012. The practice grew steadily and added Robotic surgery to their armamentarium in 2013 which is being performed at Netcare Waterfall City currently. In 2018 the vastly experienced Dr Heinrich Voigt joined the practice from his busy practice in Bloemfontein bringing with him special expertise in paediatric, uro-gynaecological and oncological urology.

Highveld Urology is well known throughout the region for our commitment to one mission - excellence in urology. This mission extends to our use of the latest diagnostic tools to identify urologic conditions, the development of comprehensive treatment programs for such conditions as prostate cancer, male sexual dysfunction, female urology, kidney stones and the compassionate care we deliver to our patients every day.

All outpatient and inpatient urologic procedures are performed at Highveld urology’s hospitals (Life Midmed – Middelburg, Life Cosmos -Witbank, Netcare Waterfall City-Midrand). Our team of 3 physicians are among the most highly trained and experienced group of urologists in the country. All three of our urologist are fully aware of your medical history, examinations and procedure. We work on a rotation basis at Witbank Urology consultation rooms, Middelburg Urology consultation rooms and the two theatres. This gives continuity to your treatment and sometimes three opinions in one. We find that this system, used in most private academic hospitals in the US, is very efficient and beneficial to our patient care. This does mean that you will not necessarily see the same doctor every time, but with our paperless electronic system all three of us will be aware of your treatment plan.
